The Toll – A Documentary
I become interested in food production in 2009 as I was seeking ways to further reduce my environmental impact. Little did I know that it would start me down a path that would change the rest of my life.
I started learning about the impact of modern agriculture on the planet and animals and our health. A vast body of work exists that covers how agriculture affects us in these areas. If you don’t already know about them, I’d recommend Cowspiracy (to which I contributed to as a camera operator), Earthlings and Forks Over Knives.
One thing that kept coming was the oft overlooked demographics that is directly affected by our agricultural practices driven by our food choices. I want to tell their story. The Toll is the story of communities around farms, people who work in slaughterhouses, indigenous people whose lands are stolen to make room for farming, farmers who bear the cost of failure while big corporations reap the benefits. people who starve while food is exported to wealthier nations, etc.
I’ve started this blog as a way to communicate the progress of the documentary to anyone who’d be interested in following my journey. If you have any questions or comments, send it my way.
